Winfred stems for the Old English words “wine” and “friþ”, meaning “friend” and “peace”.  Winfred has therefore the beautiful definition “peaceful friend”.  It is a variant of Winifred, which has Welsh roots and means “joy”, “peace” en “blessed”.
